[Organically grown tomatoes by Higo Ayumi Association]

Teruhiko Sawamura, the representative of the Higo Ayumi Association.

He is engaged in natural and organic cultivation of rice and vegetables on a vast farmland in Uki City, Kumamoto Prefecture. Shiranui Town, Uki City, where Sawamura lives, is a small hill facing the sea. The area is also known for the Shiranui that appears in the Yatsushiro Sea every summer night.

Sawamura's dream is for "the Shiranui region to return to the way it was in the past, a place filled with bountiful crops and a thriving agricultural industry." He also has a strong desire to "make this a vibrant region where as many people as possible can be involved in agriculture and where agriculture supports people's lives."

In Japan, where people are increasingly turning away from agriculture, how can existing farmers make progress and enable their successors to pursue agriculture of their own volition? The aim is to create a true "agriculture" that can be passed down from parent to child, and from child to grandchild for generations.

Mr. Sawamura has high aspirations when it comes to his organically grown tomatoes. The natural flavor of tomatoes has a good balance of sweet and sour, and when you make soup with them using onions and garlic, it becomes delicious with just salt and pepper.
