Organically grown bananas from Ecuador
These bananas are certified organic (JAS organic mark) and fair trade certified.
*We may send you the product while it is still green, but please allow it to ripen before eating.
The producer is Prieto Farm in the Republic of Ecuador. They grow bananas in environmentally friendly fields, protecting the lives of banana workers. They also focus on cultivating the traditional Valerie variety, which has a low acidity and a strong sweetness, giving it the traditional taste of Ecuadorian bananas.
To prevent pests from arriving on the island, the Plant Protection Act requires that bananas be imported when they are immature and green. If pests or diseases are found during plant quarantine, they are fumigated (using pesticides in an airtight warehouse to kill the insects), but there is no obligation to display whether or not the fruit has been fumigated, so it is not possible to tell in stores.
Even bananas that have been organically grown with care and love will lose their JAS organic certification if they are fumigated, and will be sold as regular bananas. Conversely, the JAS organic mark on bananas is proof that they have not been fumigated, let alone treated with post-harvest pesticides.
If you like the sour taste, eat them sooner; if you want to enjoy the sweetness and aroma, they are ripe when brown spots (sugar spots) appear on the skin.
Ecuador and Bananas
Ecuador is the world's largest exporter of bananas. Located directly on the equator, the country has a large temperature difference between day and night, making it ideal for growing bananas.
Ecuadorian bananas are said to be very sweet.
The majority of bananas imported to Japan are from the Philippines, so you may not have many opportunities to see bananas from Ecuador. Please come here and try some organically grown bananas from Ecuador.
Nutrients in Bananas
It contains a good balance of vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber.
Some people may think that eating too many bananas will make you fat, but compared to the calories in a slice of bread or a bowl of rice, one banana contains fewer calories and also less sugar.
In addition, the dietary fiber and oligosaccharides contained in bananas are said to regulate the intestinal environment, and have the effect of preventing constipation and beautifying the skin. Try having one banana a day for breakfast or as a snack.
We do not use any synthetic chemical pesticides or chemical fertilizers, nor do we use any post-harvest pesticides.
Please rest assured that we do not ship any products that have been fumigated.
