Pesticide-free lotus root (Mizu no Ko Kai)
[We have received completely pesticide-free lotus roots from Hikawa-cho, Yatsushiro-gun]
Hikawa Town in Yatsushiro County is a lotus root producing area, and every August beautiful lotus flowers bloom in full glory.
The Mizunokokai, which we bring to you, was founded in 1991 by its representative, Mr. Murakami, who has been cultivating crops without pesticides for many years, along with other like-minded comrades.
"The tragedy of Minamata disease must never be repeated," says the farmer, who is committed to pesticide-free cultivation and has also been involved in environmental beautification awareness activities for many years.
Mizunokokai's pesticide-free lotus root is a masterpiece packed with care and passion.
Lotus root has a strong umami flavor, and the number of fans who say, "I want to eat this lotus root" is increasing every year.
It is recommended for any dish, such as lotus root salad, stir-fried kinpira, and lotus root hamburger.
<Mizu no Kokai's commitment to pesticide-free lotus root>
1 Lotus root is harvested from a native lotus plant.
The Mizunokokai grows a native variety of lotus that is very similar to the Ohga lotus(*).
This is a so-called native lotus species that has not been selectively bred, and is highly regarded throughout the country as a delicious and nutritious lotus root.
(*Ooga lotus: Also known as the ancient lotus, it sprouted from a seed that is more than 2000 years old.)
2. We do not use pesticides such as insecticides or herbicides.
There is no point in having native lotus root if it is not safe to eat.
We consider not only the safety of those who eat the food, but also the environment, and as a result, we grow our produce completely without pesticides.
Please enjoy with peace of mind.
3 We raise our children with gratitude.
They grow the lotus plants with care, putting up stakes in the corners of the fields with the word "Thank you" written on them and stroking the lotus leaves while expressing their gratitude.
If we do this, they will grow healthily and respond to our feelings.
