Kanae's Naturally Grown Sugarcane Brown Sugar
Amami Oshima is a remote island in Kagoshima Prefecture. There, Tatsuro Kane grows sugarcane using natural cultivation methods without fertilizer or pesticides, and produces brown sugar using traditional methods. Sugarcane cultivation usually consumes a lot of land, so a lot of fertilizer and pesticides are used.
At the age of 49, Kanae-san himself fell ill with a life-threatening illness and decided to cultivate sugarcane without relying on pesticides or fertilizers. He then took over the fields left by his parents and began full-scale natural sugarcane cultivation. Naturally grown sugarcane without fertilizer or pesticides is hand-picked and carefully cooked using traditional methods to produce 100% sugarcane brown sugar.
The color, sweetness, bitterness, and other flavors vary from pot to pot depending on various conditions. This brown sugar is full of the blessings of the Amami sun and has been treasured by islanders as a medicinal food since ancient times.
Naturally grown sugarcane, made with love and care
Natural cultivation is the ultimate farming method that grows crops using the power of plants, seeds, and soil, without relying on fertilizer or pesticides. Crops grown through natural cultivation have dense cells, are delicious, and above all, are full of vitality. However, on the other hand, cultivating crops without relying on fertilizer or pesticides is very difficult. Through trial and error, Kanae himself established the technology to grow sugarcane using only the natural circulation of plant residues.
The juice is strained many times and the scum is carefully removed, making it a time-consuming process. No oil is used when boiling it down. If you add oil and boil it down, it can be made quickly and easily. However, Kanae says, "I don't want to ruin the flavor of the naturally grown sugarcane," so he takes the time to add nothing and goes to the trouble of doing so.
Brown sugar has been valued as a medicinal sugar since ancient times.
Brown sugar is rich in minerals such as sodium, calcium, potassium, and magnesium. Since ancient times, it has been treasured by islanders as a medicinal sugar. If you use it instead of white sugar, it will have a richer flavor and will be safe for your body. Brown sugar is filled with Kanae-san's passion for natural cultivation and sugar making. With one bite, the natural sweetness fills your mouth, and there is no unpleasant aftertaste at all. Please give it a try.
You can eat the solid brown sugar as is. It goes well with stews.
Kanae's naturally grown brown sugar chunks are delicious as a snack, with a natural sweetness. They are also rich in minerals and are gentle on the body, so they are safe for children to eat. They also soften meat and other ingredients, so they go well with curries, stews, braised pork, and other stewed dishes. They are also a great match with milk tea and hot milk. They warm the body and relieve fatigue.
