People Tree Lemon Peel Chocolate 50g
People Tree Lemon Peel Chocolate 50g
This is a "veggie chocolate" line with a bitter base made from plant-based ingredients such as vegetables and fruits.
Contains 4% lemon peel. It is darker than the bitter chocolate in the same series, but has a sweet taste because the lemon peel kneaded into the chocolate is sprinkled with sugar.
This is a fair trade chocolate made with cacao and sugar grown using traditional farming methods, which is kind to the people who eat it, the people who make it, and the environment. No emulsifiers or vegetable fats are used, and the traditional Swiss conching technique, which takes up to 72 hours, gives it an exquisite melt-in-the-mouth texture. This chocolate series is popular every year.
No emulsifiers are used, just simple ingredients and kneading to create the ultimate melt-in-your-mouth texture
Fair trade ingredients, such as cacao grown with love by farmers and brown sugar from the Philippines, are transported to our factory in Switzerland by our distribution partners. Chocolate is made by mixing cacao mass, cocoa butter, and sugar and slowly kneading it.
It is extremely difficult to achieve a smooth finish without adding emulsifiers in this process. By kneading for a maximum of 72 hours, we have achieved the ultimate melt-in-your-mouth texture. Also, the reason we only sell it in the cold season is because it uses a lot of cocoa butter, which is sensitive to temperature and melts easily.
Enjoy the gentle, smooth taste of real chocolate, which is different from chocolate made with vegetable fats and oils.
Fairtrade chocolate is based on Bolivian cocoa beans from "El Ceibo"
The cocoa beans used in People Tree's fair trade chocolate are grown in El Ceibo, Bolivia.
El Ceibo was founded in the 1960s by former miners who had relocated to the Alto Beni region in northern Bolivia and started cultivating cocoa beans. In the beginning, they had no means of transporting the beans to the capital, La Paz, and they had to be forced to pay whatever price middlemen came to buy them.
The farmers bought trucks together so they could ship their produce themselves, and formed a cooperative in 1977. The profits from the cocoa beans are donated to member families and to local development. There are now over 1,200 farmers who are members.
Agroforestry project to bring ecosystems closer to nature
The land in El Ceibo, which had been monocultured with cacao, became barren in the 1990s, and yields fell by half compared to the 1980s. So in 1996, with the support of a German NGO, an agroforestry project was launched. By planting a variety of tree species, including fruit trees such as bananas and oranges, and by bringing the farm closer to a natural ecosystem, the soil has become richer and yields have increased.
"Cacubura" and "Nolandino" grow cocoa beans in Peru
We don't just produce cocoa beans from farmers in Bolivia, we also work with producer associations in Peru.
Located in the Apurimac River Valley in southern Peru, Cakubura is a cooperative founded in 1969 with nearly 2,000 members growing organic coffee and cocoa.
They introduced organic farming in the 1990s and received fair trade certification in 2003. Proceeds from fair trade are used for a variety of purposes, including environmental protection and the expansion of women's rights.
Norandino, located in Piura in northwestern Peru, is a farmer cooperative consisting of approximately 6,600 households that was established in 2005. Both cooperatives in Bolivia and Peru aim for sustainable agriculture that protects the natural environment, and are continuing to grow while also focusing on organic farming.
