[Naturally grown ginger by Shunsaku Kawagoe from Miyazaki Prefecture]

Toshisaku Kawagoe is a representative natural farmer in Miyazaki Prefecture.

At Purely, we are grateful to this farmer for providing us with burdock, taro, ginger, radish, garlic, carrots, and shallots.

Kawagoe is the organizer of the Yaezakura-kai, an association of young natural cultivation producers, and while he leads the natural cultivation farmers, he also puts his efforts into nurturing young farmers.

Kawagoe's ginger has been grown since 2010 on land that was originally a rice paddy that was converted into farmland.

When we visited the production area, we saw beautiful ginger growing there, completely free of insects and disease.

I immediately dug one up and found some small but delicious looking fresh ginger.

When you bite into it, it has a slight sweetness and is very delicious.

When we compared the taste with conventionally grown ginger, there was a clear difference.

Ginger is susceptible to diseases and other pests, and for many years it has been said that it is impossible to produce it through natural cultivation.

Kawagoe has broken away from this conventional wisdom and successfully cultivated ginger without fertilizer or pesticides.

Their spirit of challenge and their determination to see things through to the end without any compromise can only be described as "amazing."
