Horiuchi Oil Mill was founded in 1947 in Hikawa-cho, Yatsushiro-gun, Kumamoto Prefecture. Since its founding, the company has remained true to its traditional "traditional pressing method" and "first pressing." In terms of productivity and efficiency, this is not an easy method, but our predecessors have believed that this method is the most suitable for producing genuine oil, and we promise you that we will continue to adhere to it in the future.

Our rapeseed oil, which has been produced using the same method since our founding in 1947, is made from rapeseed grown locally in Kumamoto without the use of pesticides. If the harvested rapeseed is not dried immediately, the heat in it will cause the seeds to rot quickly. Drying is an important post-harvest process. After sorting, the oil is extracted by applying pressure to the now rare raw material, a process called "squeezing."

To bring out the rapeseed's inherent aroma, it is first roasted. This process is important as it determines the aroma of the rapeseed oil and the aroma of the oil in the horiuchi. The condition, size, and humidity of the fruit are assessed, and the roasting temperature for that day is set and the rapeseed is roasted. The factory is filled with a fragrant aroma.
Once roasted, the oil is immediately put into a press and pressed out. Pressuring the oil just once is called "Ichiban Squeezing" or "Ichiban Oil." We believe that "Ichiban Squeezing" and "Ichiban Oil" are closest to the natural taste, and we have maintained this tradition ever since.

Freshly pressed oil contains impurities such as fruit skins, so it is washed with hot water. Hot water is added to the oil and stirred thoroughly. After leaving it for a while, it will separate into oil and water. At this time, the impurities will sink to the bottom with the water, so once the oil and water have been completely separated, the water is drained from the bottom.
This process changes the texture of the oil, so it is an important step that must be done carefully. After removing the water, the oil is passed through fine filter paper and slowly filtered drop by drop. "Every single drop" is the soul that we treasure.
