Masahiro Ito grows organic strawberries in Kamotocho, Yamaga City, Kumamoto Prefecture.
In his 20s and 30s, Mr. Ito worked in development aid in developing countries such as Laos, and returned to Japan with his family of five from Fiji, where he was posted, in March 2013.
He then quit his job in development support and moved to Kumamoto, a place he had no connection to, based on information he had gathered online while working overseas.
After a year of agricultural training with the Kumamoto Prefecture Organic Agriculture Research Association, he started working as an organic strawberry farmer here in Kumamoto in June 2014.

The reason she decided on strawberries was because "my son said he wanted to eat some delicious strawberries."
Ito-san speaks with a big smile, but he started farming at the age of 40 with three children. Organic farming is difficult, and organic strawberry cultivation is even more difficult.
He says it was truly "a continuous process of great hardship."
In 2016, his second year of farming, his crops were nearly completely wiped out.
They shipped the small amount of crops they had grown using conventional methods to the JA and said they "somehow managed to get through the situation."

In this way, through trial and error every year, Ito has improved his organic strawberry cultivation techniques and accumulated his own unique know-how.
Mr. Ito values the natural power of strawberries, and only uses biological pesticides (natural enemy pesticides and pesticides derived from living organisms) that contain no artificial ingredients, and organic fertilizers whose main ingredients are 100% natural organic matter.
Believing in the vitality of strawberries, we take great care not to kill insects with chemicals, not to eliminate weeds, and not to pull out diseased plants.
And, despite the general belief that it is difficult to grow strawberries without chemical pesticides, this year organic strawberries were once again plentiful.

無農薬いちご

"To be honest, I don't know if it's really possible to produce strawberries stably without using chemical fertilizers or pesticides. But I feel like I'm gradually overcoming the hurdles. I'll continue to work hard to establish the technology as soon as possible."
That is how Ito speaks so confidently about his organically grown strawberries.
When you take a bite, the sweet and sour taste of the strawberry spreads throughout your mouth, making you feel happy.

You can eat as much as you want without worrying, but be careful not to eat too much.
These are very precious organic strawberries grown by Mr. Ito in Kumamoto Prefecture.
